Taking a Brief Hiatus

Hello and welcome to the latest issue of Data Patterns. If this is your first one, you’ll find all previous issues in the archive. I’m going to be taking a couple of issues off, which means you won’t be hearing from me until next month.

Why?

We’re currently in the process of finalizing the details of the SOMA standard. By the time I’m back, we will have buttoned up all the remaining questions and made the necessary design decisions to get it ready for public consumption, so I can tell you all about it.

Until then, feel free to read up on what I’ve published so far:

Introducing the Metrics Playbook
Welcome to the latest issue of the data patterns newsletter. If this is your first one, you’ll find all previous issues in the substack archive. In this edition we’ll talk about my next big project — dubbed the metrics playbook —what it is and how it came to be. I don’t have a SQL pattern this week as my focus has been on this project.
Inside the metrics playbook tech stack
Last week we talked about the key insight behind the metrics playbook project. If you didn’t get that email or you missed it, you can read it here. This week I figured I’d do a deep dive inside the tech stack and show you the internals behind the project.
Implementing a Metrics Stack From Scratch
Hello and welcome to the latest issue of Data Patterns. If this is your first one, you’ll find all previous issues in the archive. I have some news. In the last couple of weeks I’ve started a consulting engagement with a B2B SaaS company. We’re implementing the SOMA metrics for them and I wanted to chronicle the journey and share with you all the details.
Modeling Data for SOMA Metrics
Hello and welcome to the latest issue of Data Patterns. If this is your first one, you’ll find all previous issues in the archive. In our last issue we started implementing SOMA for a B2B SaaS company. You can read that here. Like I mentioned in that post, while the company is fake the consulting is real.
How to model a business with activities
Welcome to the latest issue of the data patterns newsletter. If this is your first one, you’ll find all previous issues in the Substack archive. In this edition we’ll talk about data modeling and how to actually do it. I’ll also give some concrete examples from the world of SaaS businesses so you get a better idea how it works.
Why Analytics Should Be Standardized
Hello and welcome to the latest issue of Data Patterns. If this is your first one, you’ll find all previous issues in the archive. In the last few issues we’ve started talking about making sense of the data landscape using Wardley Maps and figuring out why there are so many problems in the field of data.
